When it comes to dehumidifiers, the water extraction capacity determines whether it would meet your needs or not. For instance, a dehumidifier that removes just 600ml of water in a day is meant for small enclosures and as such cannot be used as a central dehumidifying device in the home. On the other hand, a dehumidifier that removes 12L of water in a day can serve as a central dehumidifier for the home. The good thing about the DeLonghi DES 12-litre compact dehumidifier is the fact that it has a capacity of removing up to 12 litres of water in a single day without having the bulkiness associated with dehumidifiers of this capacity. Its compactness is just one of the many reasons why you may want to consider it for use in the home; others include the following.
High-Efficiency Water Extractor
The first time I used the DES 12-litre compact dehumidifier was when I moved my family to a rural section of Dorset. For the first 3 nights or so, we’d always wake up coughing and feeling generally depressed. We also started noticing some moulds on the window frames and the wardrobes and other parts of the house were all damp. A friend who had used the DES 12-litre recommended it to me and I got online and ordered for it.
It was delivered promptly to me and at no charge and after setting it up, I just knew this was the right animal for getting rid of the dampness in our home. You’d be amazed at the volume of water extracted by this dehumidifier because you wouldn’t believe that your home could yield all of that. The first day I used the dehumidifier, it removed about 7 litres of water and for the first time since moving in, I slept well and didn’t wake up coughing. The usual dampness had disappeared and the whole house smelled really fresh!
The DES 12-litre compact dehumidifier is truly compact and very easy to use and maintain. Firstly, it’s very easy to move around the house because it comes equipped with 4 castors and a carry handle. Even though it can remove up to 12 litres of water in the day, it comes with a 3-litre tank which is a reasonable tank that can be emptied frequently. However, if you don’t like making frequent trips to throw out the water, all you need to do is fit in the 2-metre permanent extraction hose and the water would be discharged outside the house and the good thing is that this is done automatically—thanks to the double condense elimination system. The tank has a visible water level so that you can see when it’s approaching the 3-litre mark. However, even if you are not around to monitor this, once the tank is full, the unit stops water extraction—thanks to the integrated tank control system.
- Built-in Humidistat: Makes it possible to select your desired humidity level and also regulate the rate of energy consumption by cutting in and out as necessary.
- Electronic Anti-frost Protection: Keeps the unit running even in extremely cold environments (as low as 2 ̊C).
- Bio Silver Tech System: A filtration system that keeps the air fresh and free of dust mites.
- Laundry Drying: the DES 12-litre compact dehumidifier can also double as a dryer for your clothes and would even dry them faster than other models.
It would have been nice if the humidity display was digital but then that would have made the unit more expensive. Also, the settings appear a little vague with the dial going from off to maximum and what the settings particular mean is not clear. However, on the manufacturer’s site, the minimum humidity operating level for this model is 30% while the maximum is 90%.
All in all, the DeLonghi DES 12-litre compact dehumidifier is very efficient at lowering the humidity levels in the home. Its noiseless operation, user-friendly design, large and easy-to-empty tank, water-extraction capacity and compactness make it a very good product. It also comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty so you really don’t have anything to lose.
