Choose it if
You want fast laundry drying and reliable extraction in an unheated space, with app control and a louvre.
Skip it if
You want the quietest, cheapest-to-run unit for a bedroom: a desiccant draws more power and runs louder.
What the numbers say about the Meaco DD8L Pro Desiccant Dehumidifier
1.8 L/day at 20°C and 60% RH
At 10°C and 60% humidity it still extracts about 6.9 litres a day at the top fan speed.
2.Works down to 1°C
Desiccant technology is the reason it keeps going in a cold garage or outbuilding.
3.Smart Laundry and louvre
Heated airflow and an automatic louvre pointed at the airer speed up indoor drying.
4.Wi-Fi and a 3-year warranty
Control through the Meaco app, Alexa and Google, with three years of cover.
A real-life example. Picture a terraced house with a utility room and a wet winter. You run laundry mode on the airer and leave Smart Energy on for the rest of the day.
How to read these figures
Extraction is quoted at 20°C and 60% humidity. Even at 10°C the top fan speed still pulls about 6.9 litres a day.
Meaco quotes about 6.1p an hour to run at 26.32p/kWh, with a higher draw at the top fan speed. The noise level starts at 40 dB(A).
When to choose it over another model
Choose it over the DD8L if you want the louvre, app and Smart Laundry. Pick an Arete instead for a warm bedroom or living room.
Our verdict on this Meaco moisture control unit: 4.5/5
Buy the DD8L Pro if you dry a lot of laundry indoors, or need to dehumidify a garage, conservatory or other cold room where a compressor model falls short. If you mainly want to dry a warm living space or a bedroom quietly, a compressor such as the Meaco Arete One 20L or Arete Two 10L uses less electricity and has a 5-year warranty. For the original model, see the Meaco DD8L.
Who this Meaco moisture extractor is for, and how to use it at home
For laundry, use Smart Laundry mode with the automatic louvre pointing at the airer. Close the door, spread the clothes out and keep the machine about a metre away. The heated airflow is what makes desiccant models fast at this job.
In a living room or hallway, use Smart Humidity mode with a target around 50-55% and let Smart Energy mode switch between fan speeds. It runs quietly on low when you are within 5% of the target and shifts up when humidity rises by about 20%.
In a garage, conservatory or unheated outbuilding, this is where it pays off. It operates from 1°C, so you can leave it running through a cold, damp winter. Expect higher electricity use at full power, so it is worth setting a target and using the timer.
The 2L tank fills quickly at full power. Fit a garden hose to the included adaptor (hose not included) for continuous drainage, or mount the unit on the wall with the optional brackets.
In a bedroom, Night mode turns off every light and alert while keeping the louvre open for low-noise airflow, but at 40dB and with a warm airflow it is not as restful as a compressor Arete model.
About Meaco's dehumidifier range
Meaco is a British brand, and the DD8L Pro is the upgraded version of its DD8L desiccant model. Instead of a compressor, a desiccant unit uses a rotating wheel to absorb moisture and then heats it away, which is why it keeps working in unheated spaces where a compressor loses efficiency. It also warms the air slightly, which helps drying clothes.
The main extraction figures from Meaco's specification are about 8 litres a day at 20°C and 60% humidity and 6.9 litres a day at 10°C and 60% at the top fan speed. A compressor of similar size loses much more as temperatures fall. The lowest fan speed extracts about 2 litres a day, which is why Smart Energy mode ramps the fan up and down depending on how far humidity is from your target.
It adds an automatic louvre, three fan speeds, Smart Laundry mode, an antibacterial ioniser, a 1-24 hour timer and Wi-Fi control through the Meaco app, Alexa and Google. At 8.7kg it is also easy to move.
It suits utility rooms, garages, conservatories, boats and anyone drying laundry indoors through the winter. It is less suited to a quiet bedroom than the Arete range, and the warranty is 3 years rather than 5.

Meaco moisture control unit: pros and cons in detail
The DD8L Pro is built for cold rooms and laundry. Its strengths are consistent extraction down to 1°C, the louvre and Smart Laundry mode, and app control. The trade-offs are higher power draw at the top fan speed, a small 2L tank at full power, and a 3-year warranty compared with 5 years on the Arete range.

Frequently asked questions
How much water does the DD8L Pro actually remove?+
Meaco's specification gives about 8 litres a day at 20°C and 60% humidity and 6.9 litres a day at 10°C and 60% at the highest fan speed. The lowest fan speed extracts about 2 litres a day.
Is a desiccant better than a compressor dehumidifier?+
In cold spaces, yes. A desiccant unit keeps extracting down to 1°C, while a compressor loses efficiency below roughly 10-15°C. In a warm, humid room, a compressor uses less electricity.
Is it good for drying clothes?+
Yes. Smart Laundry mode, a heated airflow and an automatic louvre that points at your washing make it one of the faster options for indoor drying.
How much does it cost to run?+
Meaco quotes about 6.1p an hour at 26.32p/kWh. At the top fan speed the power draw is higher, around 620W, so use Smart Energy mode and a timer to keep costs down.
Is it noisy?+
It starts from about 40dB. Night mode turns off the lights and alerts, but a desiccant unit running at full speed is louder than a compressor model like the Arete.
Does it have Wi-Fi?+
Yes. It works with the Meaco app and with Alexa and Google, so you can control it remotely.
Can I drain it continuously?+
Yes. A hose adaptor for a standard garden hose is included, though the hose is not. Wall brackets are sold separately.
How long is the warranty?+
Meaco gives the DD8L Pro a 3-year warranty.
