Placement matters more than most people expect. In a garage or shed, keep it off the bare concrete if you can, and away from anything that gives off dust or sawdust, since that will clog the air path faster than damp ever will.

Routine care is simple but worth doing. A dusty filter makes any dehumidifier work harder for less result, which matters more on a desiccant unit because it is already the thirstier machine. To estimate what a session will cost, take the power draw and multiply by the hours it runs, then by your own tariff. Because a desiccant machine uses a heating element to regenerate its wheel, expect a bigger figure than the same hours on a compressor model such as the Meaco Arete Two 20L. The trade-off is that some of that energy comes back as warmth in the room. If your space is heated anyway and stays above the temperatures where a compressor unit copes, you are paying extra for a benefit you will not use, and one of the Arete models is the sensible choice.
