Meaco MeacoDry Arete One 25L: our review and alternatives

The MeacoDry Arete One 25L is the biggest model in Meaco's Arete One range, built for a large family home, a conservatory-heavy house or a workshop where a smaller unit would run flat out and still lose the battle.

I'd pick the MeacoDry Arete One 25L for a large, damp home where a smaller unit would struggle

Choose it if

Skip it if

You want Wi-Fi control, a light machine or a unit for a flat: it weighs 16 kg and has two fan speeds.

What the numbers say about the Meaco MeacoDry Arete One 25L

1.25 L/day at test conditions

The headline rating is at 30°C and 80% humidity. Meaco's own figure for 27°C and 60% is 15 litres a day, which is the one to plan around.

2.40 dB(A) from the lowest setting

Quiet for a unit of this size, and night mode turns every light off.

3.Five-year warranty

The longest cover we have seen from a major dehumidifier brand in the UK.

4.H13 HEPA and practical design

A built-in H13 HEPA filter, hidden castors and a 4.8L tank with a handle and spouts on both sides.

A real-life example. Picture a large family house with a utility room and a wash every day. You run laundry mode on wet days and Smart Humidity the rest of the time.

How to read these figures

25 litres a day is a lab rating. In a UK room at 27°C and 60% humidity, Meaco quotes 15 litres a day.

Meaco quotes about 7p an hour to run at 26.32p/kWh. The noise level of 40 dB(A) is on the lowest of two speeds.

When to choose it over another model

Choose it over the Arete One 20L if your home is large or very damp. Pick the Arete Two 25L instead if you want Wi-Fi control, when it is back in stock.

Our verdict on this Meaco moisture extractor: 4.6/5

Buy the Arete One 25L if you have a large, damp home or a laundry-heavy household and you want a quiet, long-guaranteed machine without paying for Wi-Fi. If you want app control and a third fan speed, look at the Meaco Arete Two 20L. If your home is regular-sized, the Arete One 20L costs less and does the job. For a bedroom or flat, the Arete One 10L is the better fit.

Who this Meaco moisture control unit is for, and how to use it at home

In a large living area or hallway, set Smart Humidity mode to 50-55%. The unit switches itself off at that level and restarts when humidity creeps back up, so it does not run all day. Going below about 45% makes the compressor work harder for little gain.

For laundry, use the dedicated mode. Put a full airer in a closed room and keep the machine about a metre away so air can circulate. Wet washing is the fastest way to push humidity up, so the 25L is at its best in a utility room or on wash days.

In a bedroom, night mode switches every light off and drops the fan to its quietest setting. At 40dB it is a steady low hum rather than silence, so try it for a night or two before relying on it in a light sleeper's room.

Like every compressor model, it loses efficiency as temperatures fall. Meaco quotes about 3.5 litres a day at 10°C and 60% humidity, so in an unheated garage or outbuilding in winter a desiccant model such as the Meaco DD8L Pro is the better tool.

Empty the tank when the full-tank light comes on, or connect a garden hose for continuous drainage. Wipe the intake grille now and then, and replace the HEPA filter as Meaco recommends (roughly every few months if you use it for air cleaning, less often if you mainly use it to dehumidify).

About Meaco's damp extractor range

Meaco is a British brand, and the Arete family is the range it positions as its quietest and most energy-efficient. The Arete One 25L is the top of the simpler Arete One line: a compressor dehumidifier with a built-in H13 HEPA air purifier, two fan speeds and a straightforward control panel, without the app control that the Arete Two adds.

The 25 litres a day figure is measured at 30°C and 80% relative humidity, a hot, humid test standard. Meaco's own specification also gives the figure that matters in a UK house: 15 litres a day at 27°C and 60% humidity. That is still the highest extraction in the Arete One range and enough for a 4+ bedroom home or a very wet laundry routine.

The 4.8L tank has finger slots, a carry handle and pouring spouts on both sides, the castors are hidden in the base, and the unit sits flush to a wall. A garden-hose adaptor allows continuous drainage; the hose is not included.

It suits large family homes, houses with persistent condensation and mould, and buyers who want one powerful machine rather than two small ones. If you only need to dry a bedroom or a flat, the 25L is more machine than you need.

What could hold you back

  • ✕ Only 2 fan speeds and no Wi-Fi app
  • ✕ At 16kg it is heavy

If your home is a flat or a small house, the Meaco Arete One 10L keeps the quiet running and the 5-year warranty at a much lower price and running cost.

Meaco moisture extractor: pros and cons in detail

The Arete One 25L is built around power and reliability rather than extra features. The 15 litres a day at 27°C and 60% humidity is the strongest everyday figure in the range, the 5-year warranty is unusually generous, and the HEPA filter is a useful extra. The trade-offs are that it has two fan speeds, no app and a 16kg body, and that it is more machine than a small home needs.

Before you buy the Meaco MeacoDry Arete One 25L

Check the seller, delivery date and returns terms on the seller's listing, because some offers are fulfilled by third parties. Frequently asked questions

How much water does the Arete One 25L actually remove?+

The 25 litres a day figure is a lab rating at 30°C and 80% humidity. Meaco's own specification gives 15 litres a day at 27°C and 60% humidity, which is closer to a damp UK room, and about 3.5 litres a day at 10°C and 60% humidity.

Is the Arete One 25L too big for a normal house?+

For a 1-2 bedroom home it is more than you need. It is aimed at large 4+ bedroom houses, very damp properties and heavy laundry use. A smaller Arete One uses less electricity.

Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?+

At 40dB on its lowest setting it is quiet for a 25L unit, and night mode turns off the lights and alerts. It is still a large compressor, so very light sleepers may prefer a smaller model in the bedroom.

What is the difference between the Arete One 25L and the Arete Two 25L?+

Both share the same 5-year warranty and H13 HEPA filter. The Arete Two adds Wi-Fi app and voice control, a third fan speed and a premium display, and costs more. The Arete One keeps the controls simple.

Can it dry a full load of washing?+

Yes. Laundry mode is built for it. Put a full airer in a closed room with the unit about a metre away, and most loads are dry or close to it by the end of the cycle.

Does it work in a cold garage?+

It runs from 5°C upwards, but compressor models lose efficiency as it gets colder. For an unheated space in winter, a desiccant unit extracts more.

Can it drain continuously?+

Yes. A garden-hose adaptor is fitted, so you can run a hose to a drain. The hose is not included. If you need to drain upwards, Meaco sells a separate Arete pump.

How long is the warranty?+

Meaco gives a 5-year warranty on the Arete range, the longest we have seen from a major dehumidifier brand sold in the UK.
